THE PROGRAM
The Summer Scholars Program at the Templeton Honors College
The Templeton Honors College at Eastern University offers two rigorous, thought-provoking seminar courses in which rising high school juniors and seniors can earn college credit. Both courses are held on Eastern�s beautiful campus in suburban Philadelphia and will challenge students to think carefully about the ideas and philosophies of the most influential thinkers of the Western tradition. It is the Templeton pedagogy to question the text, others, and ourselves; By this we grow toward the Truth.
- Earn 2 or 3 transferrable college credits
- One-on- one writing tutorials with college professors
- Improve critical thinking and college-level writing
- Discuss and debate significant texts of the Western tradition
- Field trips to Philadelphia and the surrounding area

Course I: $1,799 (3 credits)
Course II: $1,499 (2 credits)
Earlybird discount of $100 for applications received by February 28, 2017.
Merit and need-based aid available.
THE COURSES
Course I: Socrates on Trial - Examining the Examined Life.
Socrates once said an unexamined life is not worth living, but why? What is the value of taking time and space to carefully examine who you are and your life�s direction? Students will read and discuss Plato, Aristotle, selected Roman authors, and biblical texts as they grapple with life-changing questions.
- Dates: July 7-15, 2017
Course II: Divorcing the Devil - C.S. Lewis�s Moral Vision.
Both The Great Divorce and The Screwtape Letters give us a moral vision of the Good, the former from the perspective of Heaven and the latter that of Hell. Both raise significant questions regarding the nature of Heaven and Hell, morality, and Good and Evil. Students will read Lewis himself, as well as those such as Dante and Milton who influenced his theological imagination.
